The Lord Blunkett Widening Access Award: The University of Law

Award information

The Lord Blunkett Widening Access Award is offering bursaries to students whose circumstances may otherwise prevent them from completing their legal studies and entering the legal profession.

The University of Law offers these awards to all postgraduate students (excluding sponsored students) wishing to undertake their GDL, MA Law, LPC, BPTC or LLMs who can demonstrate strong academic credentials. Up to 55 awards are available.

Funding details

Each award is worth between £1,000–£3,000.

Funding eligibility

Academic: Applicants should have a strong academic record, a minimum of a lower second class degree (or international equivalent) and received an offer for a Postgraduate course from The University of Law.

Exclusions: Sponsored students are not eligible for the Lord Blunkett Widening Access Award.

Other: Applicants must be from a household where income for the last 12 months has been £25,000 or less.

How to apply

Applicants will be asked to complete and pass an online skills assessment as part of the application process.

Application dates

Courses beginning September 2019: the deadline for completed applications is 5 September 2019.

Courses beginning January 2020: the closing date for completed applications is 12 December 2019.

Courses beginning March 2020: applications must be received by 28 February 2020.

Courses beginning July 2020: applications must be received by 27 June 2020.
