The Lord Blunkett Widening Access Award: The University of Law

Award information

Twenty bursaries are open to students whose circumstances may otherwise stop them from completing their legal studies and entering the legal profession. The bursaries are offered as part of the Lord Blunkett Widening Access Award scheme.

Candidates will begin a GDL, LPC, BPTC or online LLM course between January and July 2017, and be able to demonstrate a strong academic track record.

Funding details

Each award is worth between £1,000–£3,000.

Funding eligibility

Academic: Applicants should have a strong academic record, a minimum of a lower second class degree (or international equivalent) and received an offer from The University of Law.

Exclusions: Sponsored students are not eligible for the Lord Blunkett Widening Access Award.

Other: Applicants must be from a household where income for the last 12 months has been £25,000 or less.

How to apply

Applicants will be asked to complete an online skills assessment as part of the application process.

Application dates

Courses beginning January 2017: the deadline for completed applications is 7 December 2016.

Courses beginning March 2017: the closing date for completed applications is 24 February 2017.

Courses beginning July 2017: applications must be received by 23 June 2017.
