Livestock Science

This programme offers students the opportunity of a biological, scientific and professional training in the field of livestock science. It will provide students with the knowledge and skills required to pursue leading careers in livestock research, development, academia, training, public and private commercial enterprise, advisory work, government agencies, non-government organisations etc. throughout the world.

Entry requirements

Good undergraduate degree 2.2 (UK) (or above) equating to a mark of 56.5 per cent or above in biological sciences or closely related discipline. Those who are not graduates must satisfy the University that they are of the required academic standard to pursue postgraduate study.

Course modules

Modules include: animal breeding and genetics; endocrinology, growth and development; immunology, parasitology and bacteriology; reproductive physiology; principles of nutrition; statistics for experimental scientists; advances in equine and livestock science; grassland science; research in livestock nutrition; molecular genetics of production animals; statistics for experimental scientists; dissertation.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by course work such as essays, seminar presentations, case studies, poster presentations and final examinations in January and May.
