Regional and Environmental Policy

This course will connect students to the latest research in human geography and help them explore the dynamics of environmental and economic change. Students analyse the policy-making process, current policies and their implementation, and the resulting challenges that arise from policy intervention. Students master the conceptual and methodological tools that enable them to become confident and professional policy researchers and analysts.

Entry requirements

Lower 2nd Class Honours degree with a final average of at least 56.5 per cent or equivalent in a related discipline; non-graduates with at least 2 years of relevant full-time work experience are welcome to apply for any Master's course, in this instance applications are judged on an individual basis; IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL 100 (internet based) where applicable.

Course modules

Modules include: environmental policy and sustainability; training for policy research; regional policy and governance; research methods in human geography; key concepts and debates in human geography; engaging landscape; postgraduate work experience; encountering territory; postgraduate work experience; rural economy, society and policy; dissertation.

Assessment methods

The taught part of the course (part 1) is delivered and assessed through lectures, student seminars, practical exercises, case studies, course work and formal examinations. The subsequent successful submission of a 12,000-word research dissertation (part 2) leads to the award of a Master's.
