History and Welsh History
Research interests include British and American colonial history in 18th century, 19th and 20th-century British social, economic and political history; specific interests include: later prehistorical Roman and post-Roman Britain; early medieval Britain; social and political history of England and Wales from 11th to 15th centuries; urban and local history of medieval and early modern periods; social and economic history of early modern England; history of Germany from 1500 onwards; science in 17th-century England; British colonial America; British politics in 18th century; British political history in 19th and 20th centuries; popular culture in Wales since 1850; American social and political history 1850-1970; West Africa in the 19th century; modern French history.
Honours degree (minimum 2.1) or equivalent in a related discipline; IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 93 (internet-based).
The MPhil and PhD degrees are research-based degrees, in which students undertake individual research projects under close academic supervision from within the department. They can be studied full- or part-time. The MPhil normally takes 1 year of full-time research (2 years part-time), after which students complete and submit a dissertation of around 60,000 words. The PhD normally takes 3 years of full-time research (5 years part-time), after which students complete and submit a dissertation of 80-100,000 words.
