Environmental and Human Rights Law
On this course students engage with the key issues in environmental law and policy at regional, national and international levels. Students understand the practical realities of environmental pollution and degradation, as well as engaging with the complex implications of how environmental law conflicts with individual or group enjoyment of human rights. Students have the opportunity to study some of the emerging law and policy in this area. An important part of the course is the writing of a detailed dissertation within the specialism of the student's choice. This is an opportunity to select a project topic which has a direct bearing on the student's professional life. The course is particularly attractive to those seeking a career in government departments, environmental agencies, international organisations, environmental and human rights advocacy, business organisations, international law firms and a range of non-governmental organisations. As a distance-learning course, it suits those already actively pursuing their careers or managing other commitments.
The programme has been designed to be open to graduates of all disciplines who have a good Honours degree, including those from a science background and those who have no experience of law. Those who can demonstrate suitable professional qualifications or skills are welcome to apply.
