Management and Entrepreneurship
This course equips students with a fundamental understanding of strategies for managing and developing individuals, teams, departments and companies. Students study subjects including decision-making, implementation delivery, management of people and organisations, contemporary leadership and much more. Studies are directed towards gaining a masterful understanding of enterprise and innovation so that students are thoroughly prepared for the challenges of modern business management. Among many challenging topics, students study subjects including entrepreneurial learning and social capital, social entrepreneurship, business growth and developing international business in small businesses. Students understand the role of management in creating the environments for success in business innovation and enterprise, and contribute to the learning environment of the School of Management and Business through their own research projects. The course culminates in writing this course's equivalent to the final dissertation: the managerial report. This report brings together the knowledge gained during the course and allow students the opportunity to apply their learning to a specific issue or problem within the realms of enterprise and innovation in business.
A good Honours Degree (or its equivalent) in any discipline plus satisfactory references from the university. Candidates with equivalent experience and qualifications are considered.
Modules include: financial analysis and decision making; people and organisations; markets consumption and strategy; enterprise and innovation; implementation delivery and development; contemporary leadership.
Assessment takes the form of; research proposals including a related bibliographic element, case studies, oral assessments and essays. Each student completes an integrative managerial report worth 60 credits, which deals with an area of chosen study in the 3rd semester.
