Graphic Design and Typography

Research students contextualise their research in relation to appropriate aspects of current critical debate and engage with contexts of production and dissemination at national and international level. They will contribute to the developing critical culture of the subject area through publication, exhibition and conference participation Cambridge School of Art provides various research forums that address the interdisciplinary nature of research, including the Typographic Research Group. Academic supervision is available across a wide range of graphic communication subjects, including practice-led PhDs in which the research is conducted primarily through design projects. The Department has particular expertise in the field of typography; type design; and type history.

Entry requirements

MPhil: Candidates must hold a bachelors or equivalent in a related subject area. PhD: Candidates should normally hold a Master's or equivalent in a related area subject area. For candidates whose 1st language is not English, a minimum IELTS score of 7 or equivalent is required with a minimum score of 6.5 achieved in each of the 4 language skills.
