2.1 Honours degree in music or equivalent (another degree but with a high standard of musicianship); high standard of flexible musicianship demonstrated by grade 8 or equivalent, and preferably 1 other instrument (some keyboard skills are also required); relevant clinical experience with adults and children and relevant motivation, maturity and ability to reflect on self in relation to others; candidates for whom English is not their 1st language are expected to demonstrate a certified level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.5 or equivalent at time of entry reaching 7 by the end of training; candidates are also required to submit 2 references with their application; disclosure and barring service (DBS) checks required; interviews, occupational health clearance required. Applicants who are shortlisted are asked to attend an interview.
Year 1: Clinical placements and experiential development 1; music therapy practical and clinical skills; music therapy and dramatherapy multidisciplinary theoretical studies. Year 2: Clinical placements and experiential development 2; therapies major project.
Assessment is based on essays, live presentations and practical tasks such as clinical improvisation and composition, examinations and a major project involving a clinical evaluation.
