Advanced Nursing Practice

This course has been developed to enable practitioners from the health, welfare and social care arena to develop knowledge, extend and advance their practice to meet increasingly complex demands within health, welfare and social care services.

Entry requirements

A 2.2 Honours degree or equivalent; applicants need to be practicing health, welfare or social care practitioners with appropriate professional qualification or equivalent; those without a 1st degree can apply via the non-graduate entry route, which is facilitated by a member of the University's academic staff; international students are required to demonstrate the University standard of English language (IELTS at level 7.0, including written English) prior to commencement of the course.

Course modules

Core modules: Advanced skills in clinical assessment; advanced non-medical prescribing; advanced nursing practice in context; research proposal; major project. Optional modules: Adult acute care; advanced management of minor injuries; emergency care; advanced practice in diabetes care; facing death (patients, families and professionals); specialist mental health care.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by essays, presentations, formulation of research proposal, research project and a patchwork text.
