Advanced Social Work

The course supports social workers to reflect upon their role and responsibilities as qualified practitioners within the context of current practice; apply reflective reasoning to participate in and inform professional decision-making in complex practice situations critically appraise competing; work with competing knowledge and limited information/evidence to extend a critical understanding of ethical dilemmas that underpin and inform interventions that promote safe outcomes for service users, and effective service delivery; demonstrate their leadership through their contributions to the development of others, and/or through contributions to practice knowledge and the profession through research.

Entry requirements

A recognised social work qualification and be a registrant on the professional register in their country of origin. Normally entry will be reserved for those with Honours degrees or the equivalent. Non-graduate qualified practitioners will be considered for admission where they can demonstrate extensive relevant practical experience and current relevant continued professional development. Either be in employed in social care or have significant experience of post-social care work in the last 12 months post-professional registration. Applicants whose 1st language is not English: IELTS level 7.0 with no element below 6.5.

Course modules

Core modules include: research studies; major project. Optional modules include: becoming a professionally capable practitioner; assessing and managing risk; systemic practice in applied social work; understanding child development through attachment relationships; practice learning, supervision and assessment; collaborative practice for integrated care; advancing professional decision-making; evaluating practice in leadership and management.
