This is a 2-stage programme; students can undertake stage 1 as a full-time student over a period of 1 year, or as a part-time student over 2 years; students then undertake stage 2 as a part-time student only over a period of 2 to 4 years. Research areas include: teacher education; early childhood; inclusive education; special educational needs; disability; families, parenting and young people; social class; urban education; forest schools and natural learning environments; digital and computing education; science education; education for health professionals; higher education ; adult and lifelong learning.

Entry requirements

A Master's degree in an appropriate cognate area awarded by a UK University, or an overseas Master's degree of equivalent standard, provided that the degree included training in research and the execution of a research project or dissertation. Candidates should normally also have appropriate professional experience; however, there are exceptions to this so contact the University if in doubt.

Course modules

Stage 1: the reflective practitioner; the context of educational research; methods and methodology; exploring an area of special interest to students chosen theme; research design. Stage 2: the thesis.
