Mental Health Practice

This course gives students some highly specific and valuable skills for the development of their career. As an experienced, qualified social worker it gives students the academic and professional skills and practices to really make a difference and be influential in the field of mental health. Students have the opportunity to cover different areas of mental health services including safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. They also have the chance to enhance their research skills.

Entry requirements

Degree or equivalent qualification such as PQ1 or DipHE. Applicants also need to be a registered social worker, occupational therapist, nurse or psychologist and they must be nominated by their employer.

Course modules

Core modules include: Approved mental health professional training (double award); practice learning and mentoring; action research and social enquiry or research studies; major project.

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on written essays, patchwork texts (a series of separate pieces of work that are sewn together at the end to link to the structure of the module), presentations, portfolios, evaluative reports and a dissertation.
