Mental Health Practice

This course gives students some highly specific and valuable skills for the development of their career. As an experienced, qualified social worker it gives students the academic and professional skills and practices to really make a difference and be influential in the field of mental health. Students have the opportunity to cover different areas of mental health services including safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. They also have the chance to enhance their research skills.

Entry requirements

Degree or equivalent qualification such as PQ1 or DipHE. Applicants also need to be a registered social worker, occupational therapist, nurse or psychologist and they must be nominated by their employer.

Course modules

Core modules include: Mental health law; statutory mental health practice.

Assessment methods

We will assess the skills and knowledge you will develop in a variety of ways. For example, a written assignment examining themes in mental health legislation or a multiple choice questionnaire exploring law. As part of your placement we will provide you with a practice document outlining key competencies, which you will evidence with a portfolio. Your practice educator will also produce a report on how you have applied what you have learnt.
