Manufacturing Systems

This course is designed to address the challenges of all modern manufacturing systems; it covers a breadth of subjects that enable students to appreciate and deal with the complexities of modern industrial and business environments. The main aims of this course are: to demonstrate how the technological and human resources of manufacturing are organised to make products in the most competitive way; to illustrate the essential role of the human resource and its effective integration into the manufacturing system; to give the sound theoretical underpinning necessary to exploit the potential of modern manufacturing systems; to fit management and strategic theories into the realities of modern manufacturing by demonstrating a positive applications approach; to encourage work on real industrial problems, giving confidence in the ideas underlying manufacturing and the practicalities of implementing these ideas.

Entry requirements

An appropriate Honours degree from a UK university in an engineering or appropriate scientific field or qualifications (and experience) judged by the course team to be equivalent; those who do not possess an Honours degree, but have a degree or degree equivalent qualification and/or appropriate work experience at a suitable level within an organisation for an appropriate length of time, are considered; applicants may be invited for interview; qualifications from an approved professional body are also taken into account. If English is not the 1st language students are expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.5 (academic level) or equivalent English language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University.

Course modules

Core modules: Engineering management systems; computer aided engineering analysis; automation and robotics; innovative product design and manufacture; engineering quality management; project management systems; research design and methods; dissertation.

Assessment methods

Assessment includes reports, assignments, exams and students produce work in response to workshops and demonstrations, along with log books, work-based project reports and presentations.
