Applied Wildlife Conservation

This course gives students the opportunity to develop skills important for wildlife conservation; the focus is on collecting, understanding (analysing) data and communicating information to various audiences. The content of modules has been developed in consultation with employers (non-governmental organisations and environmental consultancy) and is designed to provide specific skills important for employment in conservation.

Entry requirements

Applicants should possess or expect to possess a 1st or upper 2nd Class Honours degree, based in a science-related degree; applicants with a lower 2nd Class Honours degree but with relevant experience are also considered; other applicants without standard qualifications but with extensive relevant practical experience may also be considered; prospective students with non-standard entry qualifications are advised to discuss their personal position with the course tutor. If English is not the 1st language students are expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.5 (academic level) or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University.

Course modules

Core modules: Geographical information systems tools for biodiversity mapping and conservation; invasive species and other drivers of distribution change; communication skills for conservation; landscapes, ecological networks and ecosystem services; current topics in wildlife conservation; research methods; Master's research project. Optional modules: Behavioural ecology and conservation; study tour (understanding biodiversity and sustainability); better business; governance and behavioural change.

Assessment methods

Assessment is diverse to reflect the scope and aims of the course; students can expect to be assessed by a combination of assignments, case studies, group work and presentations.
