Human Resource Management and Business

The programme develops an understanding of the theory and practice of people management in work organisations, addressing the skills required for effective analysis and policy formation. The course is distinctive in grounding the study of human resource management within the broader study of management, with an emphasis on change management and strategy.

Entry requirements

A good UK Honours degree (minimum lower 2nd Class) or equivalent overseas degree recognised by Aston University; 2 professional references (at least 1 must be from an academic referee); a completed application form (if sufficient evidence of analytical and quantitative skills is not recieved within the application a minimum GMAT score of 550 may be requested to support the application); for international students: an official academic transcript of grades (in English); international students who have not completed their full degree in a native English speaking country will also need to satisfy the English language requirements with 1 of the following: IELTS: score of 6.5 overall, with a minimum score of 6.5 in writing and speaking and 6.0 in listening and reading; TOEFL (internet based test) score of 100 overall, with a minimum score of 23 in writing and speaking and 22 in listening and reading; Pearson Academic score of 61 overall with a minimum of 61 in all 4 sections.

Course modules

Modules include: organisational behaviour; strategy, change and leadership; strategic and international human resource management; assessment, performance and reward; learning and talent development; employee relations in context; employment law; research methods in human resource management and business and organisational behaviour; managing and interpreting financial information; project module.

Assessment methods

Modules are assessed through a mixture of examinations and coursework plus a substantial piece of research leading to the completion of a project.
