Work Psychology and Business

Students study practical, real world organisational and business issues, combined with the academic and scientific rigour of occupational psychology as an applied science.

Entry requirements

BPS-accredited 1st degree (overseas applicants must have obtained a recognisable equivalent); a good UK Honours degree (minimum lower 2nd class) or equivalent overseas degree recognised by Aston University; 2 professional references (at least 1 must be from an academic referee); a completed application form (if sufficient evidence of analytical and quantitative skills is not recieved within the application a minimum GMAT score of 550 may be requested to support the application); for international students: an official academic transcript of grades (in English); international students who have not completed their full degree in a native English speaking country also need to satisfy the English language requirements with 1 of the following: IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with a minimum score of 6.5 in writing and speaking and 6.0 in listening and reading; TOEFL (internet based test) score of 100 overall, with a minimum score of 23 in writing and speaking and 22 in listening and reading; Pearson Academic score of 61 overall with a minimum of 61 in all 4 sections.

Course modules

Core modules: organisational behaviour; learning and talent development; work place design and health; research methods in human resource management and business and organisational behaviour; employee relations and counselling; assessment performance and reward; strategy, change and leadership. Optional modules: accounting for non-financial managers; organisational behaviour theory and practice; strategic and international human resource management; marketing management; operations management strategic management; management innovation; economic environment of business.

Assessment methods

The taught modules are assessed through a mixture of examinations and coursework; the course is complemented by a substantial piece of research leading to the completion of a dissertation in a student�s particular area of interest.
