Strategy and International Business
The strategy component of the degree gives students the knowledge and skills required to analyse companies' strategic situations and to solve complex strategic problems. The international business component of the degree develops the knowledge and skills required for assessing and developing internationalisation strategies and operations, as well as skills entailed in international and cross-cultural management.
A good UK honours degree (minimum lower 2nd class) or equivalent overseas degree recognised by Aston University; 2 professional references (at least 1 must be from an academic referee); a completed application form (if sufficient evidence of analytical and quantitative skills is not recieved within the application a minimum GMAT score of 550 may be requested to support the application); for international students: an official academic transcript of grades (in English); International students who have not completed their full degree in a native English speaking country also need to satisfy the English language requirements with 1 of the following: IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with a minimum score of 6.5 in writing and speaking and 6.0 in listening and reading; TOEFL (internet based test) score of 100 overall, with a minimum score of 23 in writing and speaking and 22 in listening and reading; Pearson Academic score of 61 overall with a minimum of 61 in all 4 sections.
Core modules: international business strategy; international business; strategic management; advanced topics in strategy; business research methods.
Optional modules (are subject to pre-requisites, students choose 4 from): business finance; marketing management; international finance; international marketing management; strategic business sustainability; advanced topics in international business; management of innovation; people and world organisations; economic environment of business; entrepreneurial strategies; intellectual property strategy and management; global ethics and human rights responsibilities in business; management consultancy as practice; strategic global outsourcing and offshoring.
The taught modules are assessed through a mixture of examinations and coursework. The taught element of the programme is complemented by a substantial piece of research leading to the completion of a dissertation.
