Information Systems and Business Analysis

Students study how information systems (IS) support business and its operations; students study the technical, organisational and people skills needed to develop business systems and manage IS projects in practice; applicants have access to 3 specialist career pathways: information systems management (ISM), enterprise systems (ES) or business analysis. (BA)

Entry requirements

A good UK Honours degree (minimum upper 2nd Class) or equivalent overseas degree recognised by Aston University; 2 professional references (at least 1 must be from an academic referee); a completed application form (if sufficient evidence of analytical and quantitative skills is not recieved within the application a minimum GMAT score of 550 may be requested to support the application); for international students: an official academic transcript of grades (in English); international students who have not completed their full degree in a native English speaking country also need to satisfy the English language requirements with 1 of the following: IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with a minimum score of 6.5 in writing and speaking and 6.0 in listening and reading; TOEFL (Internet based test) score of 100 overall, with a minimum score of 23 in writing and speaking and 22 in listening and reading; Pearson Academic score of 61 overall with a minimum of 61 in all 4 sections.

Course modules

Core modules: foundation in business systems; developing business systems workshop; managing projects; learning, skills and career development; applied research methods. Optional modules: data mining and business intelligence; simulation for managerial decision making; enterprise resource planning; operations management; advanced spreadsheets and databases; strategic global outsourcing and offshoring.

Assessment methods

The 7 taught modules are assessed through a mixture of examinations and coursework. The taught element of the programme is complemented by a substantial piece of research leading to the completion of a project.
