The course covers the strategic management of businesses; students study the techniques required for the analysis of strategic issues. The programme requires the student to undertake 11 taught modules and to complete a major project of approximately 15,000 words. Each taught module involves 22 teaching hours, which may include tutorials, case studies, and guest lectures.
A minimum of a good UK Honours Degree; 2 years experience in an appropriate engineering post is an advantage; qualifications from outside the UK are also be considered; international students whose native language is not English also need to demonstrate English language ability: a TOEFL score of at least 100 (internet-based) with a minimum score of 23 in speaking, 22 in reading and 21 in writing and listening; an IELTS score of 6.5 overall with no less than 6.0 in each band; Pearson Academic score of 61 overall with a minimum score of 59 in each area.
Core modules: strategic finance; strategic management; project management; management of change; product introduction process; lean and agile manufacture; human resource management; research methods; corporate social responsibility; management in engineering enterprises; major project.
Assessment methods are chosen in relation to the particular requirements of a module; these modules vary from 100 per cent examination to 100 per cent continuous assessment; currently the balance for the taught element is approximately 65 per cent examination and 35 per cent continuous assessment.
