This programme consists of practice-based and knowledge-based modules covering all areas of psychiatric pharmacy. It is designed to engender a problem-solving approach to the therapeutic dilemmas of the individual patient and to promote the best pharmaceutical practice within the clinical team. It is available only to pharmacists.
A degree in pharmacy, and the post graduate certificate in psychiatric therapeutics plus regular frequent access to adult patients suffering from the full range of psychiatric disorders and the opportunity to participate in a multidisciplinary forum in a clinical psychiatric environment; English to IELTS level 7.0 across all bands.
Practice-based clinical modules: introduction to clinical practice; clinical interventions; formulary development, clinical audit and communication. Core modules: psychological therapies; substance misuse; evidence based medicine and information technology; pharmacoeconomics. Optional modules (choose 2 from): research methods; learning disabilities; child and adolescent psychiatry; epilepsy.
Assessment is by assignments, clinical proformas, case presentations and a final, open-book examination.
