Primary Education (Lower Primary, 3-7)

This programme is designed to provide trainees with a variety of challenging experiences with a continuum of university and school work, in order to prepare trainees to become primary teachers and to enable them to meet the standards for qualified teacher status. Trainees can opt to follow either the foundation phase or key stage 2.

Entry requirements

An initial degree that is relevant to the primary curriculum in addition to a grade B or higher in GCSE English language and mathematics, as well as a grade C or higher in a GCSE science. Recent and relevant experience in a mainstream school across the primary age range. This should be for a minimum of 10 days and taken place within the 12 months prior to attending interview.

Assessment methods

Trainees are assessed both on practical teaching and university coursework. An element of the coursework is assessed at Master's level.

Sponsorship information

Every PGCE Primary trainee has the right to receive a grant of £4,200. It will be paid monthly between October and June during the training year.
