On this course specialist writing staff are closely involved in teaching and supervision, and have a range of expertise in poetry, fiction, literary editing and the interface between creative and critical writing; staff members are published and award-winning authors, and are also involved in a variety of editing and judging activities; the course offers an opportunity to pursue individual interests in writing while working as part of a supportive group of students in a lively creative environment.

Entry requirements

A 2.1 undergraduate degree in a relevant area, demonstrating high achievement in elements relevant to the proposed research or equivalent experience. In their applications, students should outline the area in which they wish to specialise. International students whose 1st language is not English: IELTS score of 6.5 with no element below 6.0 is required.

Course modules

Modules include: creative writing: poetry; creative writing: prose; introduction to literary theory, scholarship and research. plus optional modules: open essay/portfolio; transcreative writing; modules may also be taken from any part of the MA in English programme. Part 2: 20,000 word dissertation.
