Healthcare Sciences (extended)

The main aim of the preparatory phase of this course is to provide learning opportunities and experiences for students to develop their communicative skills in English language for writing, reading, listening and speaking within the context of the academic area of study that students wish to progress to. The course offers students the dual benefits of improving their English and also improving their subject knowledge prior to starting the Masters element of the programme and gives students the necessary ground to reach a higher level of achievement in their Master's programme.

Entry requirements

English language: a minimum IELTS of 5.5 or equivalent (if a candidate has a flat profile) but if a candidate as less than 5.5 in any element, the overall score must be 6. Health professional with 3 years experience in own field of practice. 2:2 or above in suitable subject (or equivalent, subject to the discretion of the programme director). Progression onto the standard Master's programme will depend on the successful completion of all core modules in this extended component. After the successful completion of this stage, students can progress to the 2nd semester. The 2nd semester (June to Sept) will contain only English language modules (60 credits, all core) taught by the university's English language centre (ELCOS).
