The course covers the key strategic management problems facing organizations; organisational complexity; how to recognise effective approaches to HRM; do contemporary employment practices lessen conflicts, and tensions in the employment relationship; which factors are most likely to influence the evaluation, and implementation of investment projects; how can we calculate a suitable cost of capital to appraise the capital investment decision; how can financial forecasts be used in business valuation, and what techniques should be used to improve trend analysis, and interfirm comparison.

Entry requirements

MSc: 2.2 Honours degree from a university, or a similar qualification from any other institution is required. Alternatively a suitable professional qualification and relevant practical experience may also be accepted. Applicants are judged on their individual merits and age, work experience and other factors are also considered. If the native language is not English, students require IELTS: 6.0 (with no element below 5.5); Pearson PTE: a score of 56 (with no element lower than 51); Cambridge English Test advanced: 169 (with no element lower than 162).

Course modules

Compulsory modules: research methods; organisations, and people; strategic management; international financial management; new venture creation; financial econometrics; plus 2 from: Islamic finance; financial modelling; knowledge management; contemporary issues in management; international business; investment strategy; portfolio management; financial analysis; behavioural finance.

Assessment methods

Dissertation (approximately 10,000 words), or a structured advanced taught programme of summer study.
