Banking and Finance
The main aim of this programme is to introduce a much stronger practical emphasis focussing on the strategies and financial management of financial firms.
MBA: A 2.2 Honours degree or higher, or equivalent overseas qualification and grade; alternatively, possession of a suitable professional qualification and practical experience may also be accepted; where English is not the native language: IELTS 6.0 (with no individual score lower than 5.5) required.
Compulsory modules: financial institutions strategic management; management research; bank financial management; international banking; financial institutions strategic management; plus optional modules: strategic management; Islamic finance; marketing financial services; contemporary issues in management; banking and development; international financial management; Islamic banking. For the advanced taught programme students will choose 4 applied business projects from a list which currently includes the following titles: e-business and value chain; human resource management; international business; investment and private banking; operations management; business planning.
Part 1: continuous assessment is an integral part of all taught modules; the weightings attaching to coursework and other forms of continuous assessment vary from module to module, from a minimum of 25 percent to a maximum of 100 percent; part 2: either a supervised dissertation of around 10,000 words, or a structured advanced taught programme of summer study that is specific to the chosen degree.
