Applied Sport Science and Outdoor Activities

The course focuses on the application of physiology and psychology to outdoor activities; it aims to develop students practical and theoretical knowledge as well as their ability to propose possible alternative hypotheses to current thinking; this course has been designed to be flexible and relevant to the student's individual needs and interests; it is intended that the skills learnt on this programme enables students to apply theory to professional practice; the programme benefits from being taught by staff with a wide a range of physiological and psychological expertise.

Course modules

Modules include: research skills; independent study (a one to one supervised programme of work leading to the development of the proposal for the research project); supervised experience; performance physiology; sport psychology; effective coaching; rehabilitation of the injured athlete.

Assessment methods

These include a research project.

All applicants to the Master's programmes are eligible to apply for bursaries and assistantships from the school, plus funding may also be available from the university.
