Sport Management

This programme is designed to give you the skills and expertise you need to compete in the sport industry and related businesses and organisations, by combining specialist teaching about the principles and practice of sport management and economics with general training in management, business organisation, strategy and research methods. It covers several key areas, such as governance and regulatory issues, with emphasis on the wider sport sector. It will help you to develop a deeper understanding of management, governance and regulatory issues within the business of sport. It is ideally suited to the needs of executives within a variety of sport organisations, such as professional sport clubs, governing bodies, media organisations, sport-related businesses, members of supporters' organisations, and local government officials with responsibilities in the leisure field, as well as people with a general interest in the sport and media industries.

Course modules

You take 7 compulsory modules, choose 1 option module and complete a 12,000-word dissertation on any aspect of the sport industry. Full-time modules: Research Methods in Management I; Sport Event Management; Sport in Society; Sport Policy and Development; Sports Economics; Sports Governance and Regulation; Strategic Sport Marketing. Part-time modules Year 1: Research Methods in Management I; Sport Event Management; Sport in Society; Sports Economics; Strategic Sport Marketing. Part-time modules Year 2: Sport Policy and Development; Sports Governance and Regulation. Option modules: International Sports Law; Sport Labour Markets. MSc Sport Management dissertation: MSc Dissertation.

Assessment methods

A combination of examinations, coursework and a 12,000-word dissertation.
