Health and Clinical Psychological Sciences

Birkbeck's MA Health and Clinical Psychological Sciences is designed for graduates with a background in psychology, neuroscience or health sciences, who want to deepen their understanding of cutting-edge contemporary research in health (including health psychology, applied neuroscience and neuropsychology) and the factors contributing to physical and mental health outcomes. The course will deepen your understanding of the methods and insights of contemporary health and clinical psychological sciences, including applied neuroscience. You will develop your generic research skills, learn advanced quantitative and qualitative methods, and study how best to design and evaluate interventions. One compulsory module, Neurocases and Clinical Assessment, is taught at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, north London. The emphasis is on mixed-method approaches and we will support you in developing a cross-disciplinary approach to appraising research and carrying out an extended critical review. On the MA degree, you conduct an extended critical review within an area of contemporary psychology, which involves formulating a research question, conducting a literature review, assessing arguments and the available evidence, and writing up your study in a format suitable for publication.

Entry requirements

MA: An upper second-class honours degree in psychology or a related discipline (eg neuroscience, nursing or health sciences).
