Digital Media Management

With digital integrated across public and private sectors, organisations need strategic leadership and specialist knowledge in increasingly complex and fast-changing contexts. This course is aimed at those with work-related or personal projects, or those wanting to change direction, drive innovation and change or plan for a start-up. The Postgraduate Certificate in Digital Media Management examines issues and opportunities in digital media, giving you practical and analytical skills and experience in the management of digital media development from strategy, purpose and initial project research to the proposal, presentation and marketing through a distinctive and professional business plan. You will choose a project topic, describe its relevance to work or personal interests, and decide on the means of delivery and evaluation. In addition to project management, you will develop transferable practitioner skills such as time management, business research, evaluation, presentation, networking, communication skills and a strategic understanding of wider digital contexts and the process of change. You will review your approach and progress critically to apply learning in the practical context of your project and be required to present your ideas clearly and effectively, and work collaboratively. Your marketing plans will demonstrate a logical progression of ideas and a practical application of theories and models informed by personal and professional interests and independent research. You will express your personal brand through your work and apply social media planning and metrics to your project. You will also provide a detailed risk analysis and a reflective personal log that relates to your benchmarks for the course and future career development. **HIGHLIGHTS** - Arts and humanities at Birkbeck are ranked fifth best in London, 18th in the UK and 87th globally in the 2019 Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject. - On successful completion of the programme, you can progress to the MA Digital Media Management. - The unique combination of technical, management and conceptual skills will increase your chances of working in one of the most rapidly expanding sectors in the UK. - The majority of jobs in the sector are located in London and the southeast, with Birkbeck uniquely positioned to take advantage of technology hubs such as East London's 'Silicon Roundabout'. - The School of Arts offers a number of bursaries for postgraduate students. - The School of Arts is an official partner of the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London.
