Creative Industries (Computing Pathway)
This joint degree programme between the School of Arts and the School of Business, economics and informatics brings together expertise that exists across the college in the creative industries area through three distinct but complementary pathways in: Arts and Media; Management; and Computing.
Normally at least a 2nd-Class Honours degree in any subject area from a UK university or a non-UK equivalent; other qualifications will be considered. Non-native English speakers need to provide proof of English language ability: A minimum IELTS score of 6.5 (with a minimum of 6 in the sub-tests) and provide the certificate. Please be aware that Birkbeck also accepts a variety of English language tests. A professional or other qualification obtained by written examinations approved by the College. Relevant experience, supporting statements and references may be taken into consideration, especially in the case of non-standard applications.
Year 1: Compulsory module (the creative industries: theory and context parts 1 and 2); introduction to software development (compulsory for students without significant computing experience); introduction to software engineering (tools and environments) (compulsory for students with significant computing experience). Year 2: Digital creativity and new media management; computing option module; dissertation.
Assessment will vary depending on the pathway you take; the awards will be assessed by a combination of coursework and unseen exams. The minimum pass mark is 50 per cent; your final mark will be ascertained via the weighted average marks for assessed work in the compulsory and option modules, and the dissertation.
