International Business and the European Union
This programme is designed for students who want to specialise in the business environment of the European Union within a programme offering general international business content. The compulsory elements provide core training in principles of international business management and research methods, as well as a core (full-year) module in European Management and European Political Economy. We place emphasis on developing the necessary research skills to understand critically, and to contribute constructively to, research in the field of international business and management in general. Students completing the programme will have developed knowledge, skills and competencies to be able to analyse problems in international business, in particular in relation to the business environment of the European Union, both in conceptual and practical terms; carry out research, in terms of critical appraisal; theory development and the application of theories, concepts and principles and the use of qualitative and quantitative research methods; understand the multidisciplinary context in which the knowledge about international business exists.
Normally at least a second-Class Honours degree in any subject area from a UK university or a non-UK equivalent; other qualifications will be considered. A professional or other qualification obtained by written examinations approved by the College. Relevant experience, supporting statements and references may be taken into consideration, especially in the case of non-standard applications. If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.5, with not less than 6.0 in each of the sub-tests.
You complete 8 modules (totalling 120 credits) and write a 12,000-word dissertation (worth 60 credits). You take 5 compulsory modules, including the double module The European Union: Integration, Politics and Policy, and choose 1 module from a list of options and 1 option module from the range of management postgraduate modules (or from other departments, subject to approval). Full-time modules: Business in the European Union; international business strategy; principles of organization and managemen;t research methods in management 1; the European Union: Integration, politics and policy.
