Environmental Management (Protected Area and Countryside Management)

This MSc degree in environmental management, specialising in countryside and protected area management, will enable you to acquire and develop a broad understanding of the knowledge and skills needed for managing protected areas of the environment, including natural, cultural and recreational sites. It will provide you with the key skills and management tools necessary for resolving conflicting pressures and demands in protected areas.

Entry requirements

Good degree or equivalent in any area, or equivalent qualification with professional experience. If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.5, with not less than 6.0 in each of the sub-tests.

Course modules

This MSc degree consists of 2 core modules (30 credits each) taught in alternate years and 2 core residential schools (15 credits each) held in April each year.

You must also select 2 option modules (15 credits each) from the list of options below.

The MSc is completed by a 60-credit dissertation, making 180 credits in total.

MSc Environmental Management (Countryside and Protected Area Management) Dissertation .

Assessment methods

Coursework relating to the core course and specialist modules; a 2-paper written examination; a dissertation of 12,000-15,000 words. Each element contributes roughly one-third to the assessment.
