Politics with Foreign Language
The programme will develop your understanding of research methodologies and techniques in politics to an advanced level, enabling you to undertake your own research professionally, at PhD level or independently. It provides an intellectually stimulating guide to politics research and aims to develop your awareness of the essential requirements of undertaking in-depth research, including theory, design and methods. It also allows you to combine the study of politics and advanced methodological training in the social sciences with extensive study of an African, Asian or Middle Eastern language, such as Arabic, Chinese or Swahili, at neighbouring SOAS.
An upper second-class honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.5, with not less than 6.0 in each of the sub-tests.
Core research modules: introduction to quantitative social research; qualitative social research. Option modules are normally available in: British and us government and politics; international relations, international security and us foreign policy; the politics of globalisation and international political economy; political theory and political sociology; war, conflict, nationalism, politics and religion; public management and public sector reform.
