Arts Practice and Education
If the student works, or intend to work, in contexts where the concerns of art and education are important then this course is relevant. The course aims to support student's continuing art practice whilst offering different frameworks through which students can critically examine the interconnections of art and art education and engage in contemporary intellectual debates. The course also allows students to build a network of artist educators who are agents of change within their own art education communities. It is defined through a number of disciplines: painting, installation, performance, photography, print, site specific work, and video in which interdisciplinary approaches to practice are actively encouraged.
Applicants require a good degree or its equivalent in an appropriate subject, and/or previous or concurrent experience in the arts and/or education. We also welcome applications from those mature applicants who may not satisfy the normal entry requirements.
Term 1: advanced practice 1, histories of art and design education or current issues in art and education, shared option module. Term 2: advanced practice 2, research in practice, final presentation.
Students take part in research, presentations and collaborative activities and are expected to complete an extended essay on education; the final Masters submission consists of a final exhibition open to the public and a short paper on the relationship of the student's art practice to contemporary education practice.
AHRC funding may be available.
