Screen Studies with Production

This course reflects the changing nature of the media industries. It combines in-depth theory and practice and encourages students to think and work in a critical and reflective way that will help them to forge a career in the film or TV industries, or in academia. Students will learn the key skills needed for working in the mass communications industry, and will examine film and television theory while applying them in their own practice.

Entry requirements

Anyone undertaking this course must possess an upper 2nd Class Bachelors degree or higher in a relevant subject area. Previous study in film, media and or cultural studies or professional experience would be an advantage. The University particularly welcome non-traditional applications, particularly from applicants with some professional or production experience. The University therefore accredit prior experiential learning.

Course modules

Screen cultures 1: debates, forms and practices; preserving the unpopular or screen cultures 2: theory in practice; factual entertainment or documentaries and features; production lab; MA by dissertation, MA by practice; research methods.
