Health Psychology

With the shifting emphasis in governance and health-related policy papers, health psychology continues to grow in popularity. Communities are dynamic and always changing, so our understanding and support of health, wellbeing and behavioural changes needs to be considerate of all diverse groups. On this course, students will study a range of techniques and methods, ensuring they graduate with the skills needed to be a competent, knowledgeable health psychology practitioner.

Entry requirements

Standard applicants are required to hold a minimum of a 2nd Class Honours degree in psychology. The degree must be accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), or be able to provide evidence of Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the BPS (or an overseas equivalent). Applications will also be considered for interview from graduates that have a minimum of a 2.2 with Honours and have covered psychology with a related discipline. They will need to have covered the following, which will be assessed at interview: research methods; empirical project at a high standard; psychology while studying a related discipline.

Psychological interventions; contemporary applied health psychology; professional issues; health behaviours; health over the lifespan; applied research methods health psychology (2 modules); health psychology research project.
