Art and Design (Interdisciplinary Practices)

This course is aimed at practitioners who want to develop a professional art and design practice by engaging with the 'hybrid' nature of art and design in contemporary culture. Students will explore how art and design is considered in relationship to philosophy, art history and theory, contemporary discourse and context. Students will be encouraged to encouraged to develop their independent areas of study in relation to different cultural perspectives and a range of art and design practices, like fine art, curation, visual communication, fashion, product and interior design.

Entry requirements

Applicants require a BA (Hons) fine art or design or a related subject, equivalent qualification or prior learning, and/or professional experience.

Course modules

Modules include: advanced practice 1 and 2; research in practice; final project; option modules such as discourses in art and design.

Assessment methods

Individual study is central to the course which can be determined through the various art and design disciplines; students are encouraged to consider the full range of material offered in the arts based Master's programme; students are expected to complete extended essays for option modules chosen and this helps extends their range of research in relation to contemporary culture and current debate; the final Master's stage submission is a major project based on the student's research and development.
