Human Resource Management

Course provides the specialist knowledge and skills required by human resources practitioners in today's organisations, whether public or private, large or small; overall programme leads to graduate membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

Entry requirements

Degree or equivalent normally required; postgraduate qualifications may be considered; candidates with relevant work experience in management or human resources or with the CIPD Certificate in personnel practice or training practice considered via APEL; all eligible candidates are interviewed.

Course modules

Postgraduate Certificate stage: leading, managing and developing people; resourcing and talent management; developing skills for business leadership; human resource management (HRM) in context. Postgraduate Diploma stage: performance management; designing, delivering and evaluating learning and development provision; employment law; investigating a business issue from a HR perspective.
Master's stage: dissertation.

Assessment methods

In the 1st 2 years of the course, assessment takes place by examinations and both individual and group assignments; at the Master's stage students must complete a management report of about 7,000 words on an individually chosen topic as well as a group project.
