The course provides students with the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge and skills in a range of advanced topics in computer science; a central theme of the course is the development of mobile and distributed systems for innovative applications; the course is designed for graduates in computer science or related areas, who wish to broaden and deepen their knowledge and learn about developments at the forefront of the subject; it provides a robust grounding in key principles and tools, together with a strong focus on industrial applications, and provides a foundation for either further research or a career applying leading-edge technology in industry.
Normally at least 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent in appropriate discipline; applications also considered without standard entry qualifications if evidence provided of necessary knowledge and skills to complete course successfully.
Modules include: Professional skills and research methods; advanced software engineering; network technology; web science; technology entrepreneurship; service architecture; mobile software development; data systems integration.
Assessment is through a combination of coursework, examinations, presentations, practical assignments, vivas, online activities and project work; assessment methods vary according to the particular knowledge skills being assessed.
