Birmingham City University
The course is designed to provide graduates of other disciplines with the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge and skills in a range of advanced topics in computer science and business computing; in the 1st semester students study the key topics of systems development, network technology and databases; in the 2nd semester they have the opportunity to study a range of specialised topics, with either a technology/software construction focus or a business focus.
Normally at least 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent in appropriate discipline; applications also considered without standard entry qualifications if evidence provided of necessary knowledge and skills to complete course successfully.
Modules include: Professional skills and research methods; systems development; databases for enterprise; network technology; technology entrepreneurship; information technology (IT) project management; web technologies; business intelligence; service architecture; strategic IT planning .
Assessment is through a combination of coursework, examinations, presentations, practical assignments, vivas, online activities and project work; assessment methods vary according to the particular knowledge skills being assessed.
