The course aims to develop the skills required to design and analyse components and systems within a general engineering environment and to introduce modern computer based tools used within the industry while introducing modern computer based tools to be used within industry context; in addition, engineering skills including problem-solving abilities, practical competencies, critical appraisal and communication skills are developed.

Entry requirements

2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent in an appropriate discipline; evidence of necessary knowledge and skills to successfully enter and complete the course considered.

Course modules

Modules include: dynamics; digital design and analysis; thermo fluids; product lifecycle management; control; manufacturing processes; finite element analysis; knowledge based engineering; Master's project.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include project reports and record keeping; oral presentations are used extensively for assessment purposes, although time constrained tests may also be used where appropriate.

Sponsorship information

Studentships funded by Birmingham TEC are available to pay fees for unemployed students, many of whom would also be eligible for a bursary from the European Social Fund.
