This course is suitable and relevant to all practitioners who want to retain an influence on clinical care but may also like to have more involvement with strategic development of services design and reconfiguration. Improved knowledge and understanding of health policy promotes confidence and involvement in wider debates within the health care arena and involvement with the formation of local and national policy. Gaining a deeper understanding of patients and the population, students are involved with means that they are likely to become engaged in influencing changes in health care delivery leading.

Entry requirements

Experienced, qualified health care professionals; accredited degree level study within the last 5 years or the Birmingham city University module Essential Academic Skills can be completed prior to staring the programme; evidence of study at degree level including in research methods.

Course modules

Core modules include: Leadership for advanced health care; facilitating learning in health care; equality and inclusiveness in health care; economic and policy influences on health care. Additional modules: Research, theory and practice; and another 3 modules depending on a choice of pathway. To complete the MSc, students need to complete 1 of the following: research dissertation; systematic review; management/leadership project.

Assessment methods

All students are given the opportunity to complete a formative assessment and access feedback on this prior to submitting a summative assessment for each module. A wide variety of assessment strategies are used for summative assignments. These include viva�s, essays, presentation and reports.
