The course develops confident and effective practitioners who have the knowledge and skills to commission, implement, manage and evaluate programmes that promote the public's health. The course provides a platform for individual portfolio development aimed at registration with the UK Voluntary Register for public health specialists; an opportunity for students to strengthen their ability to work at improving population health (as opposed to managing illnesses) at a more advanced level.

Entry requirements

Degree in a science or health related subject or an equivalent qualification

Course modules

Generic: Management of health and social care; economic and policy issues in healthcare. Personal/professional development: strategies for healthcare management; leadership and management change. All strands undertake research theory and practice.

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on written assessments of around 3,000 words. The clinical modules (for registered professionals only) usually have assessment of competence. The final piece of work for the award of an MSc includes the planning, execution and evaluation of a dissertation, or systematic review or management project.
