Staff research interests include: Bandura and the notion of lecturer self-efficacy; factors affecting how students approach studying and learning in higher education; children's ideas, constructivism and the classroom, empirical explorations of current theories underpinning learning in science education; learning styles.
The entry requirement for a PhD is normally a 1st or Upper 2nd Class Honours degree; a Master's level qualification is also desirable. At the point of application, students should be able to demonstrate that they have already identified a potential research project within a chosen discipline or field of enquiry. Applications can only be accepted in areas which the centre can support with adequate supervision.
Before the end of the 1st year of registration (your probationary period), you will be assessed through a written submission, presentation and oral defence. For each subsequent year of study you will submit a written progress report for assessment. Prior to the end of the registration period, you will submit a written thesis which you will be required to defend at a viva voce examination.
