We are based on two campuses, Talbot Campus and Lansdowne Campus. Lansdowne Campus is close to Bournemouth town centre, while Talbot Campus is 3km away, on the border with Poole. Bournemouth and Poole are student-friendly towns located near some of Britain’s best beaches. Poole Harbour also has fantastic sailing and water sports facilities as well as cultural, artistic and social opportunities.

The rise – up to 61st in the league table rankings from 79th the previous year – follows similar accolades for the university this year, such as the THE Young University Rankings, where BU also ranks among the top 200 universities in the world. In the Guardian University Guide 2018 BU was shown to be fourth in the UK for the value that it adds to its degrees, one measure used to calculate a university's overall score.

We are recognised as the only Centre for Excellence in Media Practice in the Bournemouth University graduates are involved in Oscar-winning and Oscar-nominated films. BU graduates Andrew Lockley (Inceptionand Interstellar) and Mark Ardington (Ex Machina) have been on stage to collect the Visual Effects Academy Award in person, while BU graduates have also worked on films such as Gravity, Avatar, and the Star Wars series. As well as offering modern lecture theatres, seminar rooms, dedicated laboratories and 24 hour Open Access computing centres, our specialised academic resources reflect our commitment to first-class resources.
These include: purpose-built studios for computer animation and digital special effects, recording and radio studios, Final Cut Pro editing suites and a HD Sony television studio, MoCap (motion capture) studios, Rapid Prototyping Suite, Virtual Manufacture Centre and Rose Cottage, a unique ‘crime house’ available to forensic students.
Our impressive Executive Business Centre is home to many of our business and management courses, including the Bournemouth MBA. This Centre is not just about offering high-spec lecture theatres, a contemporary e-library or the latest interactive technologies. It also breaks the barrier between the traditional university experience and working within a genuine business environment.

Our library service is a leader in the provision of electronic information and its integration into the fast-growing Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), a website giving you access to learning materials, email and discussion groups. It is also accessible externally, off campus.

Our research offering is amongst the best in the country. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF), 96% of our research was rated at an international level, with 18% of that deemed to be world leading.
