We are based on two campuses, Talbot Campus and Lansdowne Campus. Lansdowne Campus is close to Bournemouth town centre, while Talbot Campus is 3km away, on the border with Poole. Bournemouth and Poole are student-friendly towns located near some of Britain’s best beaches. Poole Harbour also has fantastic sailing and water sports facilities as well as cultural, artistic and social opportunities.

We are recognised as the only Centre for Excellence in Media Practice in the UK. BU has a long tradition of success at the Oscars, with BU graduates working on Oscar winning films such as Avatar, Gravity and The Jungle Book. BU graduate Andy Lockley collected an Oscar for visual effects for his work on Inception and Interstellar. Fellow graduate Mark Ardington collected the visual effects nod in 2016 for his work on the film Ex Machina. 2018’s VFX Award went to Blade Runner 2049, which also won the BAFTA for best special visual effects, with BU graduate Richard Clegg working on the film as Visual Effects Supervisor. More than 63 BU graduates have worked on Oscar-nominated films since 2017.

As well as offering modern lecture theatres, seminar rooms, dedicated laboratories and 24 hour Open Access computing centres, our specialised academic resources reflect our commitment to first-class resources.
These include: purpose-built studios for computer animation and digital special effects, recording and radio studios, Final Cut Pro editing suites and a HD Sony television studio, MoCap (motion capture) studios, Rapid Prototyping Suite, Virtual Manufacture Centre, as well as subject specific lags, a Bidome and our crime scene training facility.
Our impressive Executive Business Centre is home to many of our business and management courses, including the Bournemouth MBA.

Our library service is a leader in the provision of electronic information and its integration into the fast-growing Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), a website giving you access to learning materials, email and discussion groups. It is also accessible externally, off campus.

We place a huge value on research and innovation and our research offering is amongst the best in the country. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF), 96% of our research was rated at an international level, with 18% of that deemed to be world leading. We have a thriving research community supported by highly trained supervisors. Our Doctoral College provides excellent support and guidance for all research students.
