Based at Bath and Bournemouth Universities, the CDE (Centre for Digital Entertainment) is an EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training funding doctoral researchers. Our researchers work closely with and in some of the most exciting high-tech companies in the world, not for a token short-term placement but fully-embedded, usually for three years. Our company partners not only include animation, VFX and games companies (for example MPC, Ninja Theory, Double Negative and Sony), but also include companies who use these skills in other business areas (NHS, Perkin Elmer Ltd,National Trust). CDE offers outstanding and unique opportunities to students and companies alike.
Applicants should hold a first degree, or equivalent, of at least an Upper Second (2.1) in a relevant subject, such as, but not limited to, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Software Engineering, Computer Arts, Animation, Digital Effects, Design or Interactive Media.
All applicants for whom English is a second language must provide recent evidence of their English language skills, equivalent to an IELTS score of 7.0 with no less than 6.5 in each element.
The first years at Bath and Bournemouth are slightly different but both offer a firm grounding to enable you to be independent researchers. Years 2 – 4 are predominantly spent on an industrial placement.
During your placement you will be expected to return to the University to complete additional training and units and network with the rest of the students.
