Internet of Things
In the future, all our objects will act as one. The Internet of Things (IoT) is the connection of intelligent devices that captures data about how we live and what we do. All our appliances, kettles, alarm clocks, lighting, fridges, washing machines etc. are being connected up to the Internet. Market research group Gartner forecasts there will be more than 20bn appliances, TVs and other devices connected by 2020. As the connections grow, devices will exchange information automatically, coordinating actions without human intervention. Connected things will become ubiquitous and will create a single system that transforms the world of everyday objects into a programmable environment. IoT will change the way we think about life and work. Global industries such as manufacturing, transportation, logistics, defence, agriculture, infrastructure, retail, healthcare and food services, are already investing heavily in developing their own IoT infrastructures. An IoT skills gap has been identified, particularly in relation to programming, data management/visualisation, and security. This course will produce professionals with strong technical, creative, and intellectual skills to meet the need of the computing industry as it expands into ubiquitous networked devices. You will acquire the knowledge and skills to manage real business activities through an IoT infrastructure and develop an awareness of the impact of IoT on society. The course will develop your technical abilities and give you the confidence to lead technological change in any organisation.
