Comparative Commercial Law

The programme helps you find new career horizons. Giving you knowledge and practical insight in to the operation of other legal systems and how specific issues in commercial law and practice are addressed in other key jurisdictions around the world. The programme has been designed by leading international comparative lawyers for law graduates, practising lawyers and others involved in the administration of the law, including those who contemplate at some stage of their career working overseas. In addition to the skills and comparative knowledge that are offered in the core module, a broad choice of relevant elective modules lets you focus your career path.

Entry requirements

A Law degree (minimum lower 2nd Class Honours); or a degree in law and another subject (minimum lower second class honours); or a non-law degree (minimum lower 2nd Class Honours) and a pass in the GDL or CPE; or a non-law degree (minimum lower 2nd Class Honours) and appropriate/relevant professional experience. Non-graduates with appropriate professional experience will also be considered. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent educational background.

Course modules

Modules include: Comparative commercial law. Option modules include: advanced corporate law; business organisations� law; business tax law; Chinese business law; Chinese finance and investment law; Chinese public law and human rights; commercial law; corporate finance law; corporate securities law; financial regulation and compliance; fraud and financial crime; international and comparative tax law; international business law; Islamic business law; Islamic finance law; the law relating to financial transactions; transnational criminal justice law; UK and international banking law; the law of investigations.

Assessment methods

Assessment for each module is made through a combination of: Memorandum of advice on a practical legal issue (30 per cent); written examination (70 per cent); you must also submit a dissertation of 10,000 words (maximum) on comparative commercial law.
