Clinical Dentistry (Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics)
This programme provides supervised clinical training where students treatment plan orthodontic cases and provide appliance therapy; the programme is delivered in collaboration with The City of London Dental School and is aimed at professionals who intend to expand on existing knowledge and skills; students develop an understanding of the different requirements essential to the provision of ethical, predictable and evidence-based treatment.
Applicants require: an undergraduate qualification in Dentistry; plus completion of at least 1 year in clinical practice; plus current General Dental Council practising certificate. Overseas applicants require: an undergraduate qualification in Dentistry; completion of at least 1 year in clinical practice; letter of good standing or equivalent from an appropriate regulatory dental body; IELTS score of 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 6.0 in each component); and current satisfactory immunization status, current evidence of a satisfactory Disclosure and Disbarment check and current evidence of malpractice indemnity insurance prior to commencing clinical placement.
Modules include: principles of growth and development; principles of orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning; principles of orthodontic treatment protocols; fundamentals of treatment of skeletal orthodontic problems; fundamentals of treatment of non-skeletal orthodontic problems; fundamentals of adult orthodontics and orthognathic cases; advanced clinical practice; evidence based dentistry (understanding research); evidence based dentistry (professional project).
Assessment is by: written assignments; clinical examinations; and presentations.
