This modular programme is offered to serving teachers and others involved with education (e.g. lecturers, guidance workers) to support professional development; there are a number of pathways available leading to qualifications in the following areas: general education; special educational needs; further education; guidance (vocational, educational); raising achievement in city schools; early years; lifelong learning.

Entry requirements

An Honours or pass degree, with qualified teacher status (QTS) or other equivalent professional qualification, a teaching qualification with relevant experience, or substantial work experience.

Course modules

Modules include: moving into middle management; teaching for learning; researching education; teaching behaviour for learning; geography, pedagogy and practice re-imagined; inclusive principles meeting diverse needs in early years settings; critical perspectives on the early years foundation stage (EYFS); researching education; pedagogy and practice, teaching and learning mathematics in the secondary school; helping children and young people manage themselves socially and emotionally; promoting playful learning; the role of the special educational needs coordinator (SENCO) in mainstream schools; excellence in the early years.

Assessment methods

Combination of written assignments, directed tasks, posters and short oral presentations.
